Because Syria is so far away from where we live, it is hard for us to imagine what their country is going through and how bad it really is. However, the Syrian civil war and the refugee crisis is a huge problem and is effecting many different countries in the Middle East and Europe, who are trying to find places for all the refugees.
What, if anything, should we be doing for Syria? And why should we do anything? Can't Syria fix it's own problems without us becoming involved? |

Why should we help the Syrian Refugees?
- We have been blessed with many gifts and resources here in Canada and it would be selfish not to share them with others.
- While we stand by and pretend everything is all right, thousands of innocent people including women and children are dying.
- These refugees are no different from us and they need our help.
- It is our duty as fellow human beings to aid these people.
- Right now, we are writing history. If we do not help these people when we have the chance we will be ashamed of it later on.
- If we show that we are willing to be welcoming and take in refugees, other countries will follow our example and do the same thing.
- If we do not act now and try to help, it could lead to more death and suffering.
What is Canada doing to help aid the Syrian refugees? |
Currently Canada has welcomed over 27 000 refugees. These refugees are both government-supported and privately supported. Compared to other countries, Canada is accepting many more refugees, however, this country still has room for many more and there are still thousands of refugees living in terrible conditions.
This year, Canada is hoping to welcome 300 000 more refugees into the country.
